This weekend I was dining with a friend (who also happens to be the photographer who takes my headshots) when I noticed her staring at me rather intently. “You’re beautiful.” She said. I smiled and was about to thank her for the compliment when she said, “… you look really healthy.” I did thank her, feeling no need to deflect her words because it’s true, I am feeling really healthy, beautiful, even vibrant. I attribute this to several factors including having just immersed myself in loving connection with visiting my parents, spending quality time with close friends, allowing myself to fully experience feeling happy, and taking extra good care of myself physically.
In our business, people talk a lot about ‘Being a product of the products’ and I have really taken this to heart. It helps that prior to actually talking about these products publicly, or selling them to anyone, I had already become a fanatic – and my family along with me. This has served me well, because I can truly attest to the experience of fully integrating them into my life and the quality of life I enjoy as a result.
I like to tell customers about my life five years ago when I used to spend a lot of money on shampoo. Our household contained infant shampoo for my daughter, kid shampoo for my son, dandruff shampoo for my husband, and two shampoos for me, because the stylists always said you need an extra-special once-a-week treatment shampoo. Now we have one. It makes me beautiful, it nourishes my husband’s scalp, it doesn’t make my children cry. Done.
We once had a bathroom closet full of skincare products I had been sold by numerous aestheticians. Each had a brand they insisted on for my skin type. My adult-onset acne was giving me trouble and my face wasn’t dealing with the hot Texas summers very well. I spent countless dollars and defended my actions to my spouse, and still my skin would cry out with each new (expensive) treatment crème. Today I enjoy a regimen that is a delight, one my face coos over. My skincare is supporting me through the hormonal shifts of peri-menopause, and I dare say my friend is correct, I do look beautiful & healthy! Oh yeah, my husband’s skin looks great too… and my pre-teen son’s skin is also coping well with his hormone shifts thanks to using these same products.
I grew up entrusting others to take care of my health and never had any interest in figuring out how to nutrient my own body. Again… five years ago this changed. After receiving medical advice that just didn’t feel right, I realized it was time to educate myself. Since then I’ve been seeking and learning and experiencing health & wellness for myself and my family, and it shows. Did my kids enjoy taking chewable vitamins that weren’t laced with sugar at first? Of course not! But kids are adaptable, and they were encouraged, cajoled even, and now I have two kids who don’t skip a beat – not only taking their vitamins but making sure they don’t ever miss an AM or a PM dose. My husband and I have shifted our lifestyle. What we prepare for dinner has changed. We’ve taken away and we’ve added. We all know the importance of anchoring our mornings with healthy protein so that our brains function well and we can manage our energy throughout the day. We’re tuned into our bodies and can sense what’s going on with our immune systems – and we have the tools available to cope with any challenges that arise.
What a pleasure it is to share these tips, tricks and products with other moms and families who want what I have, a family that thrives! This is really just another aspect of sales as service.
