Dr. Northrup was introduced to USANA Health Sciences by her sister Penny Northrup Kirk and brother in-law Phil Kirk in 1994. A wake-up call

It was her own rude awakening of going through a divorce and realizing that she needed to get up to speed on money fast that made her see the USANA business model. At the age of fifty with two daughters to put through private college and a mortgage to pay, Dr. Northrup was scared. She began reading books by Suze Orman, Napoleon Hill, and Robert Kiyosaki. In Robert Kiyosaki’s book Rich Dad, Poor Dad read that if you want to learn about business and residual income, you should spent five years with a good network marketing company.
